Description
Hailing from Annascaul in Co. Kerry, Tow Crean was a veteran of three Antarctic expeditions, serving with both Scott and Shackleton.
The Irishman is best remembered for his epic solo march, on the Terra Nova Expedition, for which he received the Albert Medal.
His role in the escape from the ice, and the rescue of all crew on Shackleton’s Endurance Expedition, is almost beyond belief.
